As the summer comes to a close, we at Buttery Movies Popcorn thought it would be good idea to discuss the worst movie of the summer so far. These are the movies of Summer 2019 which I have seen so far ....

The verdict .... Worst movie goes to ...

X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Just wow. I actually saw this movie in Dolby format at AMC. For those of you that don’t know about Dolby at AMC, it’s a different type of movie experience that offers better sound, crisper picture and vibrating chairs which vibrate based on the action acmes in the movie. Anyways, watching Dark Phoenix in that format didn’t help much. This was actually a summer movie I really wanted to watch. I had really enjoyed, X-Men: First Class, Days of Future Past, and even the X:Men: Apocalypse. Even the prior trilogy of X-Men from the late 1990s, early 2000s wasn’t that bad. The movie suffers not only from a choppy plot (most like due to all the reshoots, rewritings that took place) but the movie had no meaning. It la lacked an important takeaway. I can sit back and watch the Avengers because I can see the important takeaway as resilience in the face of any difficulty you face but Dark Phoenix was just an unfortunate poor attempt at one of iconic villains in X-Men history. Was there any positive takeaway? Yep! James McAvoy as Professor X was great. His acting is spot on and you I really enjoyed him portraying Professor X in the big screen. Overall, Dark Phoenix was just not that good and now that the X-Men will be in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies moving forward, I’m curious to see how the reboot does!
